We are working as a recruitment provider searching on our Client's behalf for a person in the following role:

Mainframe Engineer

Responsibilities:

- Development, maintenance, and support (DevOps) of existing batch processing jobs and workflows, and the supporting data.
- Work with the application delivery team and business stakeholders to ensure production delivery of enhancements and new features are delivered safely and to specification.
- Work with mainframe developers and support teams to ensure the housekeeping and operational support activities are completed as required.
- Introduce new practices and tooling to gain efficiencies with the support of central mainframe team.
- Following Agile & DevOps working methodology and tools (Jira, Confluence, SharePoint etc.).
- Working with Business Analysts, Project/Product Managers to understand business requirements and how they translate into development sprints.
- Take part in an on call rota to manage production issues if required.
- Work with the application delivery team on the modernization agenda moving some functionality off the mainframe to a microservice architecture.

Requirements:

- Strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2 and other mainframe technologies (Minimum experience 8-10 Years)
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting
- Experience with mainframe software development tools and platforms (z/OS, z/VM, z/Linux, IBM System z)
- Should have good exposure to the Mainframes peripheral tools  such as REXX Tool, TWS Scheduler and configuration management Tools and repositories- Endeavor or Turnover.
- Should be familiar with VSAM Data sets, Flat file structure on z/OS.
- Should be comfortable to build E2E Applications using Protocols such as MQ, R2DS, CD(Connect Direct), sFTP or NDM.
- Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Java, a big advantage.
